Summer Cool Down Smoothie Recipe

Enjoy this delicious Summer Cool Down Smoothie Recipe any time of the year.

I’m always looking for an easy smoothie recipe for my daughter. She loves fruit and smoothies are easy snacks, but I’m not the most inventive because I don’t eat a lot of the same foods as she does. So, I came up with a fool-proof smoothie recipe anyone can make.

Short-cuts are my favorite way to cook. As long as the outcome is the same, why go through all the hard steps? For this recipe, I bought a container of summer fruit, already cut up, ready for consumption. It’s already cleaned, cut up (saves me time) and put together like a salad. Buying the fruit like this is also easier on my wallet because I don’t have to buy each piece individually.

So, now that I have saved time and money, I can honestly feel pretty good about making this smoothie recipe. I put the fruit into the freezer for a few hours. I want it cold, if not frozen. It is summer after all and needs to be COLD.

I also bought a container of strawberry yogurt (the smooth kind). That also went into the freezer. But don’t let it completely set. If you do, you’ll end up with an extremely thick fruit shake. I’ve tried it both ways and like it with just very cold yogurt.

I blend my fruit and yogurt together. The salad I like to buy has strawberries, watermelon, mangos, pineapple, grapes, and cantaloupe in it. I also will chop a banana up to add to my summer smoothie.

If you need liquid, add some milk, but because of the watermelon, you may not need it. I do use about a third cup of yogurt for each smoothie.

NutriBullet-review-4

To each smoothie, add protein powder for added nutrition. I use SuperFoods powder for my kids from NutriBullet. I only use a tablespoon per smoothie. A little is all that is needed to give my kids a little boost.

You can dress this up with whipped cream and a sprig of mint if you’d like, but my kids are always in such a hurry that I never get that in the smoothie. I don’t even get the lids on them before they take off with their snack.

You can even pour the smoothie into ice pops forms and make ice pops with this mixture.  The yogurt will harden in the freezer to make a yummy frozen treat for you and your kids.  Imagine coming home after school and have these frozen treats waiting!
