Summer Fixing and Grilling with a Weber Kettle Grill

Summer Grilling and Fixing

Summer is synonymous with grilling and I sincerely missed having a grill since moving a couple of years ago. Not having a BBQ grill living near Kansas City was almost a crime! Really though, nothing tastes as good as grilled food does. There's also a special flavor that charcoal grills achieve that gas grills cannot. My kids and I were ecstatic to get this Weber Kettle grill and home improvement products from DAP. Now we can have our own friends over for a BBQ and our house can look great to host!

DAP Home Improvement

After Spring Cleaning, it's time for home improvement projects. Luckily I rent our house, so most major issues are covered by our landlords, but I like to take good care of the place I live in. I do all minor repairs and such myself. We are actually moving out at the end of this month, so this set of DAP spackling and sealing products really came in handy! We take pretty good care of our walls, but after two years there are some issues. Nail holes to fill, for instance. Sop before we fire up the Weber Kettle grill, we need to make the house presentable.

Spackling

Drywall mud would work just fine for these tears in the drywall. A toothbrush holder did not hold up as advertised and the sticky strips, which were supposed to be paint and wall safe, were not. So we've had these lovely patches in our wall for a while now. I was already filling holes from screws where the towel rack fell out of the wall (it's an old place, LOL) so I figured I'd use the DAP DryDex spackle to patch the tears as well. It's doesn't hurt it. It goes on this pinkish-purple color and dries totally white. Sand it onceit is white! It's also solid enough that once dry, I could replace the screws right into it for the towel rack if I wanted.

There is also flexible spackling for cracks in an area with some bend. These cracks typically reappear over time if filled with regular spackle. Take care of those cracks for good, with all the regular benefits that is can be sanded and painted. The Platinum Patch filler is great for any issues on the outside of your home. Fill in old wiring holes and be sand and paint to blend in with your house and it will stand up to the elements.

Sealants

The PlasticWood-x will fill in any chips, holes, or cracks in wood, making it as good as new! There's also Alex Flex Crown Molding Sealant. Guaranteed for 60 years, won't shine through paint, and ready in 30 minutes. Use the Dynaflex Ultra exterior sealant for windows, doors, siding, and trim. It's guaranteed not to crack, resistant to UV fading and dirt buildup, and is lifetime mold, mildew, and algae resistant! Your house will be sealed up and ready for the coming fall and winter for sure with these products!

Getting the Weber Kettle Grill Ready

Weber Kettle grill

Now that my house was suitably fixed up, it was time to break in the Weber Kettle grill! It's the 22" size and I had burgers and corn on the cob and asparagus ready. It comes in a big box but is not unmanageable. Some assembly is required to get it fully put together. The instructions could be a little more clear, but I got it together and ready to grill in about 20 minutes. I stacked up a bunch of charcoal and lit them. The two back wheels make it extremely easy to position safely on the patio.

The lid and cooking grill can both hang on the edge of the grill which is nice, though it's difficult to find and catch the hook on the lid once it's lit and hot. My arms aren't quite long enough to hold it away from the skin of my arm and peer in to see the hook. I imagine someone with longer arms would have no problem utilizing it.

Cooking on the Weber 22" Kettle Grill

Weber Kettle grill

It took about 15 minutes for the charcoals to fully ignite and I placed the cooking grill and lid on for another 10-15 minutes to get the cooking surface nice and hot for good searing. I left the vents at the bottom where you drop the ashes, open as well as the vents in the lid to keep the airflow going and not put out the coals. Starting with the corn on the cob, I turned it every 7 minutes or so until cooked, then added the burgers and asparagus. I started the asparagus on a grill tray for cooking, then crisped it up by placing it directly on the grill. I like it crispy! The 22" size is really quite huge! There is more than enough room to cook up a bunch of burgers and toast the buns at the same time if you want.

I spread the charcoal evenly while cooking and it cooked everything up great! Perfect medium-rare burgers, delicious corn-on-the-cob, and crispy asparagus. It doesn't take too much time to get to cooking either, which I love. It's easy to control the approximate temperature with the vents above on the lid and below. The handles DO stay cool and make it easy to move the grill if needed (not recommended if hot) and to lift the lid.

Clean Up

To put out the coals, just put the lid on, and close the vents! After about 10 minutes I take a ball of aluminum foil out and rub down the cooking grill. It works just as well as a brush and you don't lose steel bristles. I clean up the grill nicely, then replace the lid. You still want the cooking grill a bit warm or hot to better clean it off. Usually, I let it sit overnight, closed, then go out the next day to do the rest.

The Weber Kettle grill has an aluminized-steel one-touch cleaning system. Just move the lever at the bottom of the grill back and forth and the fan-like blades push the ash through the vents into the aluminum ash-catcher below. You just lift the bowl with the ashes and dispose of them. Simple as that! Charcoals that are burned enough fall through to the bottom and the cleaning system sweeps them away. The system really does catch almost everything; there is very little is left once it's done.

Conclusions

Weber Kettle grill

  2. I've used DAP products in the past and they worked great for me, this is the first time I've seen the 'dry time indicator' though, great idea.
As far as Weber goes, I agree it is THE name in grills. I've had other name grills that came and went, but when I got the Weber, I never needed another.

  16. I need this, seriously! The last grill we had, and the only one we've had since being married was so bulky it was a pain just to get it out and use. Plus the pain was always chipping off which was gross when you're cooking with something. This looks great!

  28. We just finished a home Reno and I always prefer dap products over others- especially their caulk and spakle. The caulk is easier to work with that other brands, and isn’t as sticky to clean up. I love the spackles with the color added- takes out the guess work and forces me to be patient and wait for a dry surface lol
