Stuck for some teen party ideas?

Teenagers you love them one minute then want to ship them off the next some days when you get teen attitude. Don’t you just love hormones? They don’t always make it easy and sometimes their birthdays are no different. It can be difficult to come up with some teen party ideas so we’re going share a few. teen party ideas

The good news is I have found having gone through the younger years to tween and now to teens that you don’t have to plan as much. In fact sometimes those moody teenagers already have an idea of their own for their party. Some don’t want a party and that’s all good, works for me.birthday teen party ideasFirst off when it comes to teen party ideas ask the teen if there’s something they’d like to do. I’ve heard it all from nothing to I just want a friend over to hang out to the more elaborate. Asking is the best place to start. I know that seems obvious but you’d be surprised how many times it doesn’t happen.

Your teen has indicated they want to do something but don’t know what so now you need some teen party ideas. I have to admit my experience is with girls so some may or may not apply to the boys. Here are the teen party ideas that have gone over well with my daughter and her friends:

Music

Teens love their music so we set up a laptop with a bluetooth speaker. They like to go between youtube videos (hence the laptop) and music on their phones, hence the bluetooth speaker. We leave what they want to play up to them. Although I’m constantly surprised when I hear them play music I actually recognize even the ahem “old” stuff from the 80s & 90s their words not mine.

Video Games

Yes many teen girls and boys are video game lovers and my daughter is no exception. Their space includes you got it video games

Snacks Snacks Snacks

I know teen boys can eat a lot and sometimes that goes for teen girls too. We do a variety of the healthy to the not so healthy cause hey it’s a party.

Other Gamesbirthday teen party ideasHave the option of a few games, you know, card games, board games etc.. as part of your teen party ideas arsenal. You’d be surprised at how often they may pull them out. Especially when they are ones that will make them howl with laughter like this Relative Insanity game. This game was created by comedian Jeff Foxworthy and is for those ages 14 & up. You need a minimum of 4 players and you don’t want the little ones in hearing distance when playing this game. birthday teen party ideasWe tried it out with one of our daughter’s friends (who was photo shy) and it was a hit. So much so that my daughter is bringing it out for her upcoming birthday.

So what is it about? There are set-up cards and punch-line cards. Each player chooses the punchline card that they think will get the most laughs that finish the set-up card. You can get some very interesting phrases. Just check out the possibilities below for the set-up card (red) and the punchline cards (yellow).birthday teen party ideasYou read a set-up card aloud, like: “When my brother brought out his new baby to show the family, Granny blurted out…” Then everyone else chooses one of their punchline cards to finish the phrase, like: “You are not the father!” or “Somebody took a trip to the land of bad decisions,” etc. In between laughter, the reader picks the funniest one to give that player a point! It’s a different hilarious game each time you play! teen party ideasBetween myself, hubby, my daughter and her friend we had a belly laughing good time. I can’t wait to hear the gales of laughter when they play it at my daughter’s birthday. It’s a definite add to our teen party ideas list.

Strobe Party Lights

To go with the music we’ve picked up inexpensive strobe party lights that can be used year after year. They have different colors. Some also have music with them. This one for example was less than $15 on Amazon HEREteen party ideasThey even goofed around and tried doing photos with these colored strobe lights. Sure the photos aren’t great but they had fun doing them with the music going and the color changing strobe lights. Space

Even their hanging out at your place give them a space to do just that. If they’re blaring music or playing video games you’ll like that they have a space to use.birthday teen party ideasDon’t worry we were very careful with these sparklers

Other popular ones for both our daughter and her friends and us was dropping them off at the theatre for a movie. We love that you can buy tickets ahead of time too. Not only do they get to do their own thing we don’t have to be there or we can go to a movie of our choosing while they go theirs. I don’t want to say we get rid of them for a few hours but we get rid of them for a few hours.

Cupcakes in different themes have also been a hit from the time they were little kids to my teen-ager she still loves getting decorated yummy cupcakes instead of a cake. Also we don’t have to cut a cake so easy peasy.birthday teen party ideasSomething that’s become a bit of a tradition for us, weather permitting is a backyard campfire complete with roasting marshmallows. The young ladies look forward to it every year and some have been coming to it since they were in grade 2.

When it comes to teen party ideas I wouldn’t sweat it too much. I have found that more often than not they just want to hang out with a friend or a group of friends and just chill while munching on snacks.

  1. So hard to think like a teenager, to know what they’ll like or hate…so any good ideas on party planning for them are always welcome.

  2. I so agree with your comment that it is best to ask first about the kind of party that your teenager would like. I have one granddaughter that likes a big party and the other would prefer to just have 1 or 2 friends over.

  3. I will show this to my sister in law. Her daughter is going to be a teenager in a few short months and this will help her plan the party.
