Disney’s Movie Inside Out has made us realize the joys of all our emotions. #InsideOut
Read to the end to find out about a fabulous sweepstakes hosted by Clorox and Disney for a family to win a trip to San Francisco and a shopping spree at the Disney Store!
Being a parent brings with it the ultimate combination of feelings. From joy, fear, disgust, anger and sadness – I have felt them all as a mom. I remember when my daughter was born, I was fearful of everything, especially germs. My lazily washed hands were now washed in a manner that resembled surgical prep, and Clorox Wipes were always on hand.
Yep my daughter in a joyful and goofy moment this past week 🙂
As she grew, I learned that wiping away hand prints would forever be a task filled with sadness. Each hand print I wipe away will never be the same one again. The hand print of today is slightly larger than the one from the day before (or week before). My husband looks at muddy hand prints on the sliding glass door in disgust, while I admire them. They make me smile and fill me with tiny bits of joy (do I really have to clean them?).
Have I lost it? What am I talking about? Joy in messes? -really?
Don’t worry folks I haven’t lost it and when I tell you why you’ll be like ahhh, or maybe you’re already getting it now. There is joy in messes; like finger painting with your little ones, playing in the mud, or teaching them how to bake for the first time.
Even now that my daughter is a teenager I am still finding sneaky ways to find joy in the messes. Our favorite: we garden together daily. More-so on the weekend, but a little each day. Each evening we slip outside to check on our vegetable garden – watch them grow – just as I watch her do the same. I love how excited she gets over a new vegetable sprouting or a new flower blooming.
Above are some flowers we just planted last weekend for my birthday 🙂 My daughter gets to see them every time she comes home and we’re both proud of our colorful plants and keeping them alive.
Gardening with her is a joyful mess. The combination of water, sun, mud, and natural fertilizers- makes for a fantastic time outside together. When we garden daily we aren’t planning, we are just doing. Sometimes that means tiny stains on clothing that she wouldn’t usually wear outside to “work” in. I can treat those stains on her vibrant clothes with the Clorox 2 Pen.
Ten minutes is all we need! In fact II keep one of these pens in my car as it seems I always spill something on myself while I’m out or at the office working. After our gardening session I had to use the pen for both of our shirts, you would never know now that they were covered in dirt!
As we watch our plants grow and our flowers bloom we get to revel in the joy from what started out as a mess of dirt, pots and is now our tomatoes growing and our flowers coming into full bloom. We keep checking the tomatoes every day waiting for them to turn red so we can enjoy them.
Here are some of our flowers and our tomato plant. Our joy that came from a mess of dirt and more!
Disney’s Inside Out movie opened in theaters on Friday June 19, 2015 and because my daughter has been waiting for it to come out we went on opening day. Inside Out has really brought back some fun, messy memories for us. My daughter said some of her favorite parts of the movie were:
When she got to see all five of the emotions (Joy, Disgust, Sadness, Anger and Fear) in not only the main character’s head (12 year old girl Riley) but also in here parent’s heads. She thought it was hiliarious how each of their emotions reacted differently and when the mom’s emotions were trying to send signals to the dad’s emotions and dad wasn’t getting it.
She also said that Sadness was her favorite character because she was a cute character but she also understands how when your sad your family and friends try to cheer you up. It brings you all together and shows how they love you and can end up in joy. Fairly astute for a 13 year old but then again I am biased 🙂
I loved the movie for it’s overall message, it shows us how important our emotions are, to pay attention to them and how for example fear can stop us from doing something stupid, anger to vent, disgust for well those gross moments and recognizing what we don’t like and how sadness can turn to joy. I don’t want to reveal too much but I will say iff you aren’t already planning to go see Inside Out and SOON!
It is the movie that every family needs to see. I found Inside Out to be a great reminder that messes are an inevitable part of life and are accompanied by mess-emotions. All emotions have their place, have their purpose, play a role, but with the help of Clorox, parents can power through the mess to find joy in the moment.
For a sneak peek at the movie here’s a short video for you!
Oh and besides the fabulous news that Inside Out is now in theaters we just have to share that
Clorox and Disney are giving one family the chance to explore San Francisco from the “inside out” and a shopping spree at the Disney store.
- Two first-prize winners will win prize packs with Clorox coupons and Inside Out products.

Ah, the joy of messes! Well, I can’t think of anything more messier (or fun) than making molasses popcorn balls (The recipe I use is from the Little House on the Prairie cookbook). This is a fabulous treat for Halloween; simply rename as “Giant Spider Egg sacs”.
Lay lots of plastic or newspaper down and go for it!

Thanks so much for the Wonderful Review on The Joy of Messes! We have a vegetable garden as well and we do the same thing! We go outside every day and check on the progress of the growing vegetables. We are still in the process of planting flowers, however, it hasn’t been top on our list of things right now! We’ve been busy running to the intensive car unit of Jefferson Hospital almost every day to go see my father who Friday a week ago fell from a ladder and is now paralyzed. He’s been back and forth on how he feels about things and they do keep him pretty well drugged up. He has broken ribs as well. So, things we wanted to get done, we have no time for at the moment! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful review on The Joy of Messes, all the wonderful pictures of your flowers and your growing beautiful daughter and the Inside Out information along with your personal and professional opinions on The Joy of Messes with all of us! I used to be a clean fanatic when my kids were babies, however, now that they are bigger, I’m not so fanatic about it anymore. It will eventually get done! I also use Clorox as well! Thanks again for sharing! I always appreciate your reviews!!!! Thanks again! Michele 🙂
