fun healthy snack for kids

I loved the Muppet Show as a kid and I have to say I still enjoy seeing these characters from my childhood. I think it's great that they are still loved by kids and adults today and it was fun to introduce the Muppets to my daughter when she was younger.

My daughter loved Miss Piggy but who doesn't love good ole Kermie?! We love snack ideas that kids think are fun but of course as parents we'd like them to have healthy ingredients in them too. Well you can't go wrong with apples when it comes to a healthy snack and oh so versatile.

This is a great after school snack for the kiddos. We know most schools if not all don't allow food with nuts in them to come to school so save this fun and healthy snack for the kids for after school!

This fun healthy snack for kids in the shape of the Muppet's Kermit the Frog is a hit with kids. They'll love dipping Kermit in the peanut butter fluff dip!

Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Green apple
  • 1 Red apple
  • 1 marshmallow
  • ½ cup of peanut butter
  • ½ cup of fluff
  • 1 edible marker - you can get them at Amazon if you don't have it: http://amzn.to/1NL5eub

Instructions

    1. Take your green apple and slice it in half from stem to end.
    2. Slice a small slice off both sides of the green apple making one end more narrow.
    3. With a paring knife cut a moon shape in the center of the apple.
    4. Cut the same shape out of the red apple and firmly place it in where you removed the moon shape on the green apple.
    5. Cut your marshmallow in half. With your edible marker make the eyes. With the sticky side down place on top of your apple. The marshmallow will be sticky enough to stick to the apple.
    6. With the other half of your green apple cut triangle shapes for Kermit’s neck ruffle.
    7. In a small bowl mix peanut butter and fluff together until smooth. Serve with the apples!

I can still picture Kermit and Miss Piggy sparring, Miss Piggy trying to get her Kermit to marry her and all the crazy shenanigans of the Muppets. It's funny I didn't realize as a kid that all of those "humans" they had guest star on the show were really well known people. I was just enjoying watching the Muppets and their friends. When I go back and watch them again I'm like wow look who was on here I didn't even remember that or knew who they were then, just that they got to be on the Muppet Show lol.

  1. This is adorable. Most of the snacks I see that look like a favorite critter aren't as healthy and nutritious! I love this and can't wait to try it!

  2. That's such a cute idea. Especially if you have picky eaters. I think all kids would be more likely to eat healthier foods if it were made fun like this.

  5. Those are so cute! I know they really don't fit the theme of Halloween, but I bet my granddaughter would love them at her Halloween party this year.

  6. That's too cute. It sounds good too. I don't have little ones but will make the dip. Granny Smith apples are so tart, I always have to have something to put on them.

  9. My favorite Muppet was Miss Piggy. I like eating apples with peanut butter. I have never mixed the peanut butter with Fluff. I also like the dark chocolate hazelnut spread that Jif makes, yum! Thank you for sharing this recipe.
