My daughter Sian and I have been talking about Christmas and what we'd like to do over the holidays and how we try not to focus as much on the receiving of gifts but how it should be about giving. It amazes me how much my daughter has matured in this last year in particular. Like most children she has talked about what she would like to receive but she has always understood and known that she wouldn't get everything she wished for in fact if she was lucky we'd try to get one item depending on the cost.

This year of her own accord Sian asked about donating toys and winter clothes to those who can't afford them to obtain those items. Sian says that we should be more thoughtful and try to give more as some people don't like asking for help and we don't want them too feel bad so we should just offer help? Those are her words and nothing could have made me prouder 🙂

We went through all her clothes and took anything that was too small and still in excellent shap and we donated them to a local charity who will give them out to those who need it. Sian has told me that she would like to use some of her birthday money (it was in September) and she would like to either buy a toy or give the money directly to the charity, so we will be doing that as well. She also told me that we don't have to buy her any Christmas gifts if we needed to pay our bills. Now who wouldn't love such a gesture? I told her that while things were tight I'm sure we could still give her a present or two. I asked her to write up her Christmas Wish List so that if we could her dad and I would choose something she really wanted. She doesn't know this but we've already bought her two presents from her list but I'm not going to say which ones 🙂

You might not be able to read it all but in the hearts she has stuff like school supplies, which I thought was funny since that was taken care of in September but she told me she though it was a good idea to have some "practical" choices. She also just wrote Wal-Mart stuff as she said they seem to have everything lol.

I like to shop ahead of time most of my Christmas shopping is already done as I like to get things when I see them on sale. I like to buy things we need rather than want but of course it's always nice to be able to buy at least one gift that your child wants and that would light up their eyes when they open it. That's why I start ahead of time looking for the sales and buying that one item as it's wonderful to see the joy on their face on Christmas morning when they open it.  Of course there are always some great sales during the holidays so I might pick up one or two more if not for this year maybe for next year!

We want to know what your children want so we're asking you to share your child's wish list, or pictures of items they want and/or videos via TwitPics (use the icon below to do this) and make sure to use #WalmartWishes and tag @powerbymomblog & @Walmart when you do it! You can also use the twitpic widget below 🙂

  1. My daughter has a bike, but she can't ride it because we don't have a helmet for her. I would use at least part of the GC to get her one so she can learn to ride.

  5. The $50 would totally be going to my groceries & other items that I normally buy from Walmart. I swear I spend more at Walmart each month then all my bills combined!

  6. Since we have no children to buy for and funds are tight we would probably use the card for either food or to pay for one of our combined 18 prescriptions. We are both medically disabled and our disability runs out long before the month ends. $50 would buy a lot ramen noodles
