Weighted Blankets for Improved Sleep and More
Weighted Blankets are available everywhere and I am sharing some tips on how to select one for a better night’s sleep and more!

Why a weighted blanket?
Studies have shown that weighted blankets can have a calming effect with children and adults that have sensory processing disorder. Research has also shown that they could be an aid to help reduce anxiety in the same condition. In addition to providing a calming effect and reducing anxiety with its gentle pressure that mimics a hug, it seems to help people to fall asleep and stay asleep.

How do weighted blankets mimic a hug?
Like a hug, the blankets provide gentle, firm pressure that helps the body to relax. Research has also shown that hugs make people feel more relaxed and/or at ease. When we get a hug our bodies release a hormone called oxytocin which helps reduce blood pressure, makes the heart slow down a bit and provides that ahhh relaxed feeling.
Cleo is certainly relaxed.
It has been said that weighted blankets can help anxious pets too. Our newer rescue dog Cleo certainly got excited and had to check out our new blankets from Mosaic. When I received their Blanca White Weighted Blanket in king-size she jumped on the bed as soon as I had laid it out as you can see in the above & below photos.
This weighted blanket has a high-end cotton fabric that goes with everything. It’s also machine washable and they have a 30-day money-back guarantee!
- Blankets are quilted in small squares to create an evenly weighted experience.
- The quilted pattern evenly distributes the weight so that the pellets do not slide from one side of the blanket to the other.
- They use 100% new, BPA-free, hypo-allergenic, FDA compliant plastic pellets.
Here’s a quick video where Cleo and I give you an up-close look at this wonderful weighted blanket.
If you’re new to the world of weighted blankets like I was, one thing I like to mention is the sizing. A “king” size weighted blanket from Mosaic is 76″x80″ so it covers the surface of a king-sized bed. It does not hang over the sides like a comforter. This common with these blankets and if you think about it, the fact that it’s heavier it makes sense to not have it hang over the sides.
Why weighted blankets can help improve sleep
Research has found that pressure on our bodies can trigger the release of chemicals in the brain, including serotonin that helps with the reduction of stress. In turn, melatonin can be released, it’s the hormone that promotes sleep and helps regular our sleepy cycles. Melatonin is linked with the production of serotonin so they seem to work in tandem for our rest and relaxation. Weighted blankets can provide the pressure to help trigger this process. As I’ve mentioned our newer rescue dog Cleo seems to support the idea that weighted blankets can help pets too. She loves to be under blankets, all cozy and warm. I was surprised that she liked being under it oo. My daughter who loves weighted blankets now is always using the kids throw one like she is above. Well, would you be surprised to know that Cleo is under that weighted blanket? As soon as my daughter went to her favorite couch and brought this cute kid’s weighted blanket throw with her, Cloe jumped up and went under the blanket. She was so happy and cozy. This throw blanket is a great size, even to take in the car when travelling.
Weighted Blankets Provide a Sense of Warmth & Safety
If you have been around or had a baby one thing I’m sure you did was swaddle them. Am I right? My daughter loved being swaddled and apparently many still love that feeling. The weighted blanket provides that swaddled feeling and that helps you to relax.
Don’t like to be hot?
If you’re like me and don’t like to be hot when you’re sleeping, don’t worry Mosaic also has their Coolmax blanket. This blanket’s revolutionary fabric technology combines comforting weight and airy breath-ability to deliver the calming pressure of a traditional weighted blanket without overheating.
- Weighty, yet breathable fabric

Mosaic has a blanket for everyone of any age. From the cute and fun patterns for kids to ones even adults would love too. Heck, I might have encouraged my daughter to select the Planets and Nebula patterned throw. They also have soft and cozy ones with a minky cover and you can get removable covers to use on your blankets. They truly have a size, pattern and a cooling weighted blanket (for the hotheads like myself ahem) and style for everyone in the family, even your four-legged ones if you were to ask Cleo.
