Whether you use hair straightening products, curly hair products, go to the salon every month or twice a year I'm curious to hear about it and your experiences.

I personally try to go and see my hair stylist about every three months to get a good haircut, have her help with any damage and now that I'm older yes some hair color touch up. Believe it or not I went years without every coloring my hair. I had and still do have very healthy hair however, at one point I decided to be cheaper as we had moved, just bought our first house and things were tight. I needed a new hair stylist as my old one was too far away from our new home.

Well things did not go well, I got the worst haircut ever, she cut my long hair way too short, all these crazy layers and I tried to get another stylist there to fix it, that didn't work either! On top of it at that time I was using cheaper products which unfortunately they were not good quality products. You don't always have to pay a ton of money for good products but definitely be aware of the quality when paying less.

My hair that year was the worst, it was dry, split ends and because it was so much shorter than I was used to I didn't know how to style it as well. Did I mention it went curly? My hair is naturally wavy but when it's shorter (ie chin length) it can go curly as I discovered. Curly is not bad but when you combined the damage to my hair, the bad haircut etc.. it was not a happy year for me. I try not to be vain but let's face it for me if my hair looks crappy I feel crappy.

I'm happy to say I have a great hair stylist now and have for several years, I use only quality products that I get from a fabulous hair salon that also has it's own hair products store so they get HUGE discounts on the products. I can get all the name brand hair care products at great prices. To me it's worth it to take care of my hair and I always feel so great after my appointment! My hair feels soft, silk and I leave with a great style! Now if I could only learn to style my hair as well I'd be a happy  camper 🙂

  1. I use conditioner every day and sometimes I use gel or mousse . I only wash with shampoo a couple times a week because it drieds my hair out

  2. I go to the salon every 10-12 weeks and get my highlights touched up. I purchase my shampoo and conditioner at the salon as well, the brand 'It's a 10'. I need to have an AMAZING product for my hair that actually works since it tends to get frizzy and dry du to highlighting.

  4. I have long, mostly straight hair. I get a few inches chopped off about once or twice a year and then just let it grow. I cut my bangs when they start getting annoying. I've found as I've gotten older that I can't use the cheap shampoos and conditioners on my hair anymore. As I get more gray, it seems the gray hair is thicker and kind of curly. I'm 'imagining I'll look like a gray Annie eventually. haha

  5. I've started using Viviscal again. A while back I won some and noticed quite a change. It's kind of expensive, but I used my Walgreen points to bring the price down.

  6. I go to the hair salon about every 2 mos. In addition I use sulfate free and moisturizing shampoo and conditioners. I also use a sunscreen in my hair during the summer

  7. I have naturally curly hair. The shorter it is the curlier it gets. I am now allergic to many average hair products so I have to get my shampoos and conditioners at the health food store. I do not use mousse anymore. To tame the frizz I use plain coconut oil and put it on my hands then scrunch my curls. That's it!

  8. I cut my own Hair, I know I am shocked too! I cut the top and some of the side Hair about 2 to 3 inches and then I Mousse it and blow dry it upside down, which keeps it Puffy and then I move it to the Right side with the brush and then I blast it with Freezing Spray. It comes out the same way as when I have had it cut at the Salon, although the Curling Iron really helps with the Hairstyle, I have just not been using it. I can get the same lift (almost) with the Mousse and blow drying it upside down as long as I can Freeze it in place. I have very Fine Blonde Hair that is Greying, I usually Dye it, but lately I have been hoping that the Grey just gives it Highlights.

  10. It is now July 19th and my last hair appointment was January 3. My hair is pretty long. My husband cuts my bangs. And yes, I did buy haircutting scissors for that. He does a great job. I try to use quality products. Luckily we have a Sally Beauty Supply store in my town. I definitely need a conditioner these days. I hate that ripping sound when I brush it and pull hair out. Ouch! I have not colored my hair since 2010. It's not noticeably white (my version of gray) since I am blond. I liked the Suave Moroccan Infusion that I had a sample of. Usually I love Pantene but was disappointed by their Aqualight. I only blow dry my hair and don't use any styling products. Not even hair spray. Gasp! kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot)com Thank you.

  11. I need to find a decent stylist. Last time I had a hair cut the woman choked me with the smock, burned my head with hot water and used her sharp nails while washing my hair. I thought my scalp would bleed. She smiled and said how you doing? I should have just walked out!

  14. I have really long hair.. and most of the time I let the big loose natural curls I have flow without product.. But depending on the time of year it is really humid here so I will use a anti frizz serum!

  15. I go to the salon about every six months! I only straighten my hair once a week, which last about two days before It starts looking greasy. Usually I go all natural maybe a little anti frizz serum, where I live it is really humid at times..

  16. I despise going to get my hair done! I have resisted getting my hair colored for over 20 years (I started going grey in high school) and I resent wasting time in a chair while everyone "blah blah blahs" around me. I'd actually rather go to the dentist! However, if I could find a non-toxic way to straighten my unruly hair without having to pull it straight every morning I'd do whatever it takes to have that!

  17. I have curly hair too and I refuse to go to a "cheap" salon. So, I only get a haircut every couple of years. I wish I could afford to go more often but at $100 a pop plus gratuity, it's not happening for this stay at home mom. :/

  18. I don't go as often as I should. My hair grows fast, so I should go every 2 months at least. My hair is white, and very dry. so I try to use good shampoos and conditioners on it.

  19. what a coincidence, i just got my hair cut today. i am really bad at waiting too long in between hair cuts. i cant afford those fancy hair salon products but i wish i could. my hair would probably look 'brighter' if i used them. i do take vitamins so i am hoping they are doing my hair some good.

  20. I always use Biosilk and Its a 10 protein cream which keeps the hair healthy in spite of the things we do to it. Always use thermal protector before using heat.

  21. I'm horrible with my hair. I never get it trimmed, and I never use any salon products. I just use the cheapest shampoo and condition I can find lol...Sometimes I use moose and I use the cheapest of that too:)

  22. I use a good hair shampoo and conditioner to help my dry flyaway hair. It really helps if I condition my hair every time I wash it. I usually use a hair straightener to smooth out my hair!

  23. I have medium length very curly hair that I get relaxed and trimmed about once a year. I get it relaxed not to be straight but to be manageable. My hair dresser is always scolding me about not coming in more often to get it trimmed but I can't afford it. I do use good quality products on it though to keep it healthy. Also I only wash it once a week, although I have to get it wet daily to be able to comb through it.

  24. I get my hair cut and highlighted about every 3 to 4 months. I have the greatest hairdresser. I am older so I keep my hair short.

  25. I do not take care of my hair like I probably should. I have not been to a hair salon in at least 10 years. I used to contantly dye my hair different colors and abuse it but now Im in my 30's and have mellowed out. My hair still is dry and frizzy and if i condition too much it gets oily and weighed down!

  26. Igo to the salon every 5-6 weeks. My hair dresser is the greatest! I have very thick, fine hair and it took me years to find someone who could cut it properly.
I wash my hair almost every day because I also swim almost every day. I use a straightening cream and a flat iron.

  27. I really do not do much to my hair. I try to air dry it as much as possible and try to keep it well moisturized. I brush it twice a day and that is pretty much it.

  28. I don't go to the hair salon. In 2011 I was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma and had to shave my head because it started falling out.It was the best thing I ever did. My hair is coming back now and it's curly, wavy and healthy. I never took care of my hair before.I mean I washed it but I only had it cut every few yrs. I'd just have my mom trim the ends.Hair is so over rated. I felt so good when I shaved it. It was like starting with a new slate. Although I have to admit I have tons more gray coming in but no big deal because I can color it. I'm not going to have really long hair again.I'm going to keep it just past my shoulders. I will now take better care of my hair now that I have some.Lol! 🙂

  31. I wash a few times a week. Let it air dry. Go to the hairdresser every 8 weeks or so. I have very fine hair, but a lot of it. I've had the same stylist for almost 20 years. Very few people know how to cut fine hair. She now cuts my daughter's hair. Every now and then, I'll dye it a fashion color.

  32. I am a hairdresser. I do not color, relax, or use heat products on my hair. I shampoo with a moisturizing shampoo and do not condition. Instead I use Argan Morrican oil. Just a touch and brush my hair. My hair falls perfectly into place with no frizz. The key to great hair is moisture. Most products contain alcohol which dries out your hair.

  34. I wash my hair nearly everyday, and always use conditioner. I use extra moisturizing products, as my hair is curly and prone to dryness. I never use blow dryers or hair dye. I use very little hair gel and hairspray - just enough to tame flyways. My hair is long and usually in a ponytail. I get it trimmed every few months.

  35. I find I only wash my hair 3x a week or it gets to dry because of the color in it. It does not matter what product expensive or not it just gets dry and frizzy. I have the color done at the salon so it is always looking great.

  36. i take care of my hair by not washing everyday, it is hard but when i wash everyday it gets so dry and hard to manage, if i wash everyother day it has time to hold onto some of its natural oils, i try not to put up to much either, i used to keep my hair in a pony tail all the time and i noticed it started breaking right where the hair tye was, crazy

  37. My hair is really thick and it's kind of on the dry side, not to mention I color it. I wash my hair only 3 to 4 times a week so I don't dry it out anymore than it already is. I color it about once every 3 to 4 months so as not to damage it. I always use conditioner after I shampoo and comb, rather than brush it out when it's wet. I do use a straightening iron on my hair but only about twice a week. Before I use the iron though, I use product on my hair to protect it. My hair is actually pretty healthy for being almost 60. I think, eating right and getting plenty of sleep helps though. I also take vitamins daily.
