If you're like me you have a ton of old CDs sitting around and possibly some DVDs you no longer want. After all with the world of streaming movies and downloading music we don't seem to use or need CDs so what do you do with them?
I have an absolute ton of CDs and I mean a ton, way, way back when I worked at a popular local music store that also had movies amongst other things so my CD collection is quite vast. However I never listen to them any more for the most part. I've downloaded my favorite ones onto my iTunes and now listen to my music on my iPhone or on my desktop computer. I don't want to throw them away as I don't want them ending up in landfills so what to do with them? Hmmm
Well here comes Music Magpie where you can sell your CDs, DVDs and games, sound interesting? It is really interesting as it's free to use, there are no auction or sellers fees AND there's free shipping. yes FREE , FREE not like Ebay and other places where you have to pay fees to list or when you sell. I think it sounds so interesting and even if I get just a little it of money for CDs and DVDs it is definitely better than just throwing things out.
I'll give some away of course but a little bit of money is always appreciated, every bit counts so I can get that Starbucks mocha or frappe here and there :).
What CDs, DVDs or games to you have around the house that you want to get rid of and would like to get a bit of money for? It doesn't hurt to check out Music Magpie and it could be a bit of cash in your pocket. There aren't any other services I know of that have FREE shipping and don't charge seller's fees. If you want to find out what Music Magpie is all bout see more here.
Let us know how you like it!
That is a wonderful idea about the cds/dvds..because you can only watch a movie sooo many times than its time to get rid of them let someone else enjoy them!! excellent idea the same goes for music/cds too..:)
This is great information because we move a lot and selling things to people who are also trying to sell the same things is not advantageous. We are stationed overseas, so the buying population is small for our dvds etc.
What a great idea! I have a ton of CD's/DVD's... some of my music collection is 25 years old! I'd say I only have listened to about 2-3% of my CD's in the last 5 years. Would be great to get rid of them, but I don't have the time or patience for eBay or a garage sale. Definitely will check them out!
I still keep my cds, since my car plays them, but I have sold things on Amazon or Half.com before.
Nice idea! Ours are just gathering does instead of being viewed/listened to.
We use them around the chicken coop to scare the haeks away...works great
I have about 200 CDs but I still listen to them. I don't have an iPhone or any other gadget. For me is if it ain't broke don't fix it. I have a CD player in my living room and bdrm so I listen to them. I also have lots of movies I don't watch all the time so I'll probably check this out for those. I was selling them at garage sales for $2. Thank you for sharing 🙂
we have sooo many dvd's that we practically give away at garage sales...this is a great alternative. thank you much.
really great idea! so glad there is an option besides a trashcan. such a waste to have to get rid of the quantities of music & movies people have and have to toss every time a new technology comes along. when i think of all the 8-tracks, beta, vhs, audio cassettes, 45's, 78's, albums and now cd and dvds that ended up in a landfill.....
I am thrilled to know about this cool way to get rid if all those CDs laying around!
I keep them in a cabinet and watch them again.
Mine are really scratched up.
this is a great idea. I love being able to re-use stuff.
Liked the idea a lot that I sent out a package with DVDs and Video games and CDs. Hope to see a check soon.
Great Concept! And like you said, even just getting a little bit of money is nice, especially for something that is just taking up space and you don't use. Thanks for the idea.
Ya know I was thinking about this the other day when I was looking at my son's DVDs....Thanks for sharing, I'm gonna have to look into this!
I usually just make sure Goodwill gets them, or when it's Rated G, I take them to our local daycares.
I've been told that most of my dvd's need to be sold this is a great tool to do so thanks so much for the review.
Who'd a thunk? I have been tossing tapes and CD's right and left lately. Checking this out
So happy I read this ! I have so many lying around and I feel too bad tossing them. I'd much rather make a couple bucks and get to clean out my house. win win!
I give them away or trash them depending on their condition
I have sold a CD's and DVD's online in the past. I tend to hang onto the CD's we have for the occasions when the MP3 music player get corrupted. I have thought of starting a little local exchange where people in our community could trade movies and music they no longer want for some the do. MAgpie sounds like a really neat concept I want to check out though.
I either sell them when I am having a garage sale or, I Donate them to charities. Or, with kids cds & dvds i also donate them to local daycare centers & also churches who have daycare centers. And, especially a new daycare just opening up they would love to get them & you can get a slip of paper from them and use them as a tax write off under charitable donations!!
I give them away.
I donate them, or give them to family/friends !
wow music magpie sounds great!! Thank you!
This would probably be a great resource to find that obscure move or CD. I don't want to part with any of my CD collection just yet but when I do I will check out Music Magpie. Thanks for sharing.
Most of the time I end up giving to pawn shops or yard sales, I will try selling them online next time.
I gave my old CD's to my daughter who made an art project out of them. She glued them to a board face down and had her friends write on them.
thanks everyone for all your ideas <3
I give mine to grand kids too, and some that don't work anymore I use the to make things in my yard like and owl out of them!
Thanks for sharing....great idea
In college I used to trade them for more music, but now I usually give them to friends or donate them.
Really cool, there is place that buys old cds and stuff! I will have to look through my collection that you for the post!
This is a great idea. I looked at it and it seems to be very easy to set up. I will have to clean out the CD cabint and various other places they are lurking.
wow thanks for sharing! I usually burn them onto the computer and put the on our ipods but some of them are so scratched that I can't burn them at all!
My daughter keeps throwing ours in the closet. We have to get rid of them. Love this idea
Thank you so much for this post. This sounds like an incredible site. My daughter has so many DVD's and CD's she'll be thrilled to know there's something she can do about it. Thanks again.

Well nothing yet but now I know what to do with them!! Thanks so much for the info, I have sooooo many of them and not enough room in my house.
I had never heard of this place before, thanks for the info.
Good idea! I will have to look into this since we are moving and doing some spring cleaning!
This is a really cool idea. I always just toss mine or sell them at a yard sale!
I have a ton hidden out of site in the cabinet under my coffee table, but it would be lovely to have that space for something I actually use. Thanks for the tip, it never occurred to me that I could make some money off of them!
I still have a most of my cd's............the scratched ones I use in crafting. I guess its time to go through them and sell some and let someone else enjoy them.
I have no idea why, but I just do not have the heart to throw away all my old Cd's & DVD's. I have alot of them too. They are sitting in a box in my closet, where every now and then I'll pull them out and listen to them, or watch a DVD I haven't seen in awhile.
We still have most of our Cd's and such...they are in a drawer in our office.
We either sell CD's back at a local store or donate them to the library
very cool, I will share this site with my son, he has tons too
I wish I had known this earlier. I already threw away all my CDs... but for my DVDs will definitely keep this in mind
Our old cd and dvd is expansive as well. I just keep adding to the pile and often wondered what to do with all of them. I wasn't aware of this solution until now and I'm sure I can enlighten family and friends as well.
I will have to take my old CD and DVD and sell them at Music Magpie.com they are collecting dust in my basement. I haven't had a yard sell in a long time so I will be checking out Music Magpie.com
I have plenty of those old CD's that I also have downloaded on iTunes. Teachers at school and church use them for craft projects, but I just cannot imagine my Janis Joplin or Bob Seger, or other precious CD's being used for a craft project. So, I packed them all away in totes and stored them. Selling them is a great idea and I know there must be someone out there that will enjoy them as much as I do. Thanks for the info.
THS IS GREAT TO KNOW--THANKS FOR SHARING
Great idea, I just have all of my old cd's and dvd's on a shelf in my closet, collecting dust.
I need to take my old CD and DVD and sell them at Music Magpie.com because I can make some money and I am not using these items anymore, and this sounds like a lot easier thing to do then sell them at a yard sale. I will have to look into this awesome site!
My sons left a lot of old CD's and DVD's here and they don't want them. I shall have to go and try this site, and see if I can sell them.
Thanks alot. Great idea.
Thank you so much for this site. I have a music collection of over 800 cd's! Some I can't part with, but I am checking this out 🙂
Great idea. I sold all my at a yard sale.
i have alot of 8 tracks and tapes and cd`s records 45 and 33 records i could get rid of ( im telling my age lol)
Thanks! I will definitely check this out! I also have so many and never knew what to do with all since I've uploaded every one to my Ipod!
Thanks so much for the info. I have boxes and boxes of cd's and wasn't sure what to do with them. This is a fantastic way.
Wow!! What an awesome idea.
I have used this site for many years, as well as their sister site, paperbackswap. Thank you for getting the message out.
Great idea... thanks for the information!
I have never heard of this before! What a great idea. I am going to go find all the cds and dvds I don't want and see how much I can get. I will also share this with my son, who has a ton if cds just collecting dust. Thanks for the great info!
Oh nice! I have BOXES of the things that I never even look at -- this sounds like my perfect solution!
Thanks for the heads up. I don't have many CDs but I do have a ton of old DVDs that I and my kiddos no longer watch. I love that there are no fees.
free shipping and no seller's fees?! definitely checking this out! i could use the space and a little extra cash for sure. thanks!
This would be great!!
Thank you for the post! I like to get rid of my CDs on SwapACD.com. It is connected to Paperbackswap.com, and is a great way to get rid of CDs. http://www.swapacd.com/index.php?f=books
If you have CDs or DVDs that are scratched beyond repair, you can hang them in your garden as a deterrent for birds (so they do not eat the fruit you are growing).
This is cool... I'd be more likely to buy than sell but when and if I do want to part with some this is good info
I could really use this site, I have alot of old dvd from my kids younger years I could clean out.
Wow! What a great idea! I never thought to do this! I usually donate them to schools or nursing homes.
I actually give them away if I do not want them or for others that prefer cds to cassette tapes
I think this is a great idea.. i have many cd's that i do not listen to nor plan to ever listen to again lol.
I usually either throw them away or give them to Goodwill. Never heard of this site, but its a good idea.
Oh this sounds like a great site! I have lots of DVDs and CDs to go through. Thank you!
I have got to tell my son's about this because they have tons of old CD's and DVD's sitting around not even being used. They will be happy to know they can make a few bucks off of them. Thanks 🙂
I usually give them to family or sale them yard sale. This is a wonderful idea.
I always give them to mu family or sell them in a yard sale. This is a great idea.
WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!! I had no idea about this site! Thank you for the info =) Sweet! and free shipping you can't beat that! lol
I usually give them to a place where they give out items to the less fortunate.
I never thought about doing anything with them except maybe using them as a can coaster. Mainly they just sit collecting dust.
I never thought of selling them on line I give them to my kids & grand kids to watch great idea
