What Does Your Perfume Say About You?

If a picture tells a thousand words, a scent paints a thousand more. Close your eyes and inhale a few scents and you'd be sure to conjure up a visual image of the type of person you imagine would wear each perfume. From rich, heady aromas to barely there fragrances that somehow leave their mark, each perfume may call to mind a sensual seductress; a coquettish, beautiful young thing; a headstrong and confident business woman, or anything in between.

What Does Your Choice of Perfume Say About You?

A spritz of a classic Chanel or a waft of a celebrity scent; a spicy, sensual aroma or a light hearted, fresh hint of an aroma - what type of perfume do you tend to opt for and what do you think it says about you? There are perfumes that deliberately hint at a racy sensuality, others that are more suggestive of a cosy night in and still others that convey a 'don't mess with me' message. With the human nose able to distinguish between some 10,000 smells, it is a powerful organ and it makes sense to put some thought into the message that we want our perfume to send out about us.

What Sort of Mood are You in Right Now?

Of course, we all have more than one side to our personality and the type of image we might want to project at work may be entirely different to the one we want to project when out on the town with our friends or on a hot date with a potential new love interest. With this in mind, it makes sense to change one's perfume in the same way that we would change our outfits - what works well in the office might appear drab in a bar and what appears young and playful in a nightclub might give off entirely the wrong signals to the IT man fixing your photocopier.

Matching Your Scent to Your Personality

There are countless perfumes on the market, but perhaps not one of them quite manages to encapsulate the 'you' that you really are. Some may be a touch to sweet, others a tad too strong, while others may be spicier or more fruity than you feel really reflects your personality. If this is the case, essential oil suppliers can work with clients to perfectly blend scents to create something perfectly matched to your unique personality. It can even be possible to create several perfumes to suit your various moods and varying situations - essential oil suppliers may be able to create a 'work scent', for example, which could include strong, woody aromas and should not be so sweet as to appear frivolous, while a 'date scent' might include good enough to eat fragrances such as vanilla, almond and citrus fruit in order to guarantee that your date will be eating out of your hand by the evening's end.

Don't Let Your Perfume Do All the Talking While we may be happy for our perfumes to send out messages about our personality types and even our moods; we don't want to let it say too much. No matter how high quality the scent, overdoing the perfume creates a 'cheap and nasty' effect that is more likely to have others coughing into their sleeves than trying to catch a glance of the girl with the alluring scent. Less is more, so apply a spritz once or twice a day to the pulse points on the ears and wrists and prepare to let your perfume create a great impression.

  2. I only wear perfume on special occasions because I don't go out much, but I prefer "light" scents. I don't want to be too overpowering to those around me. I think scents that are "heavy" really don't make me smell nice at all.

  3. Different people have different choices. Some like it strong while other like mild fragrance. I would suggest to opt for extra mild perfumes or mists for people who are sensitive towards strong scent.

  6. I use a body mist by Dove that I love. Most any smells give me headaches and too many people pour their scents on like they took a bath in it. Certain scents I do love but I'm still looking for that one that says me 🙂

  7. I have several that I wear, but my and DH's and all friends' favorite is La Dolce Vita. I have even had compliments by male coworkers at a very formal office I used to work at. I'm running low, haven't found any locally and hope that I can find some when I decide I must buy more.

  8. I bought some Harvey Prince samples and love Fling and Couples. My husbands loves it. I'm pleased with this perfume. I also like Beautiful and several others. I guess I think a perfume should reflect my mood more than my personality.

  9. I like perfume, but I do have a problem with people wearing so much of it that you actually taste it after they leave. I like subtle smells, not the strong stuff

  10. I have found that some scents linger long after the person is gone and tend to cause me to have a headache. I choose to use lightly scented lotion and skip the perfume

  14. I love perfume and especially if it is a fruity light scent that lasts. Nothing I hate more is at the end of the day my expensive perfume is no more.
