Weight management for pets is vital for their health & happiness

Weight management for pets is just as important is it is for humans

According to a 2016 survey an estimated 58% of cats and 54% of dogs in the United States are overweight or obese. I'm not sure what the statistics are in Canada but I wouldn't be surprised if they were similar. We all know that obesity can be a health risk for people and the same holds true for our beloved pets. That's why weight management for pets is so important.

If we want our pets to happy and healthy for a long time we need to be vigilant about weight managements for pets too. It's not their natural instinct to become overweight when in the wild, but with domesticated animals they need some help from their human family.

It has been shown that even a slight increase in weight for dogs can decrease their lifespan by about two years.

I know that all the dog lovers (and cat lovers) out there like us want their pets to be around for as long as possible and that they're healthy too. Our dog Luna who now at the grand old age of 12 is a senior dog and because of her decrease mobility she's not getting the kind of exercise she used to be able to do. She has gained some weight and we've had to take measures to counteract that.

With Luna being less active and moving slower we have had to watch her weight even more. We've always given her good quality food and are even happier that she's on Petcurean Now Fresh. Petcurean is high quality pet food, we've talked extensively with our local pet food store, a small local business who practically gushed about the quality. They had more expensive brands but they confirmed what I've already researched and seen, Petcurean is a great choice for our senior dog. So much so that we've agreed to be Petcurean ambassadors and both our dogs and our cat Oliver are now only eating Petcurean.

For Luna she's on the senior Petcurean Now Fresh dry food and she loves it. Even Oliver the cat tried to eat it silly boy, probably because it was right there on the floor it was easy pickings for him. The ingredients are as fresh as you can get them without anything in it to worry about. Take a look at the ingredients yourself below.

In addition to visits to the vet, low impact exercises to keep Luna moving, Petcurean Now Fresh is helping us Luna's weight management. She may be a senior gal but she has lots of spunk and we're helping her to be as healthy as possible in her golden years. Fortunately Luna also loves the taste of Petcurean, she acts like it's a treat.

  1. I recently discovered the Petcurean brand and absolutely love it. One of our cats who had always been a finicky eater due to a malformed jaw had been through every single food available too me. I have found she will eat the Petcurean and has actually gained weight. She also doesnt have as many stomach issues which have bothered her all her life and nothing the vet did helped. She is 13 almost 14 and I hope due to this new food she will live much longer.
Petcurean is a good brand. Ihave no doubt your dog is satisfied while losing weight.

  2. Our sweet dog has started to put on the pounds. This is great info that is timely for us. We want her to live as long as possible so we we need to start working on helping her keep that weight down now through diet and exercise!

  3. I think Garfield said "Eat every meal as though it were your last". He's just so cute that he can get away with it. 🙂 But I think owners should really have that awareness and initiative and be serious about weight management. I think it's already going to that direction, just needs a little push.

  4. Improving the health of your pet by increasing walks to manage weight can have the "side effect" of improving the owner's weight health, too. So many times if the dog/cat is overweight, the owner is, too. It's a win-win to get more active together.

  5. Our German Shepherd/ Husky mix Harley has food allergies and a bad knee so it is very important for us to keep an eye on his weight so that his joints stay as pain free as possible.

  6. I have a senior rescue dog, Monty. The vet says that he is at least 15 years old (and just discarded like so much trash); I have to be very careful with his food because he was mistreated for so long he wants to eat all of the time. He would be very fat if we didn't take special crae of his diet. The good news is that with good nutritious food instead of what he once had he's getting strong, glossy and happy.

  7. I have a German shepard mix and we try to go as natural as we can. She loves her food and scarf it down so we have in order for her to keep her food down and her weight normal for her bread we feed her a few times a day and lesser portions. I wonder how it was that my mom fed her dog scraps that he lived a long healthy life.

  9. I got a rescue last summer. She was less than a year old. She's stopped growing now, so it's a guessing game, I have to watch her closely to figure out if I am overfeeding her, but make sure to get her plenty of exercise. She's a mixed breed, not even sure what she's supposed to look like or how big she should be LOL.

  10. I have 3 chihuahuas *9 yrs old) and a red healer (6 yrs old). They are all on the verge of being overweight in my opinion. Their vet says to keep doing what I am doing because in his opinion, they are just where they should be.
