As winter sets in, it’s time to take your winter coats and jackets out of the closet.  It is often seen that people tend to spend the winters wrapping themselves up in hideous looking coats citing the fact that they keep them really warm. However, given the innumerable options available these days, it is possible to keep yourself warm without compromising on the style quotient. There are only a few things that you can do to keep yourself stylishly warm these days. Only a little bit of information can help you to choose something that is fashionable yet practical for the season.  Here’s how you can go about it:

Opt for classic style coats. A belted trench style coat or a pea coat have been and will continue to be in fashion for years. You can spend on a good quality coat

You can opt for a coat that comes with a shaped waist. Loose fitting coats can make you look shapeless. You can opt for one that comes with a little curve and this will make you appear attractive.

If you are buying a coat, then you should try it first prior to purchase. While trying you need to cross your arms to see if you can do it perfectly. Look into the mirror and see that the coat is not stretched while you try it out.

Apart from ensuring the fact that the coat is warm, you also need to check the length of the same. You can try one that is of hip length. The length is ideal when you wear winter coats with skirts, pants or dresses.

You need to purchase coats that are made of natural fabrics. It can either be made from cashmere or from wool. Coats made out of these fabrics are quite warm and can last for seasons. All you need to do is dry clean them after winters are over and they will be worth your money.

You can even look for coats that are wind and water proof for additional warmth. You can check the seams to make sure that they are well-sealed.

You can also opt for winter coats that are padded up with additional materials such as fleece line pockets. Though they may not be necessary, they do provide warmth and comfort.  All these combine to make your winter coats stylish and at the same time keep you warm.

  1. I like fur coats the way some women like handbags or shoes. They're the warmest and look great too. I do have a couple of down coats because when it's wet outdoors I can't wear fur.

  2. This is some great information on buying coats. I like loose fitting jackets with my jeans, etc and one more form fitting with dresses. Thank you so much for sharing

  3. Warmth is the most important thing that I look for in a coat. Especially after this past winter. Fur is the warmest, but you can't wear it when it's wet outside.Down filled is my second choice. Toasty warm.

  4. To me, warmth is number one. I have several coats. Too many actually. I have my everyday coat that's hideous but warm enough. When it gets freezing cold it's nothing but my mink. It's the warmest coat I own.

  5. A few years ago I made the mistake of buying a coat on impulse. I picked it. looked it over and paid. When I got home I put it on. While it fit just fine, it's too tight across the shoulders. I'm good as long as I don't move my arms.

  6. I have to say I think we have all been guilty of buying a shapeless coat at one point in time. It offers no style or sense of personal fashion at all. My tip would be not to shop for a coat when you are feeling under the weather and only looking for comfort. Shop when you are ready to seriously consider how you look and feel in your new wardrobe accessory.

  7. I purchased a new winter coat 2 months ago. My old wool coat was way past it's prime and on top of that the lining needed to be replaced. It was cheaper just to get a new one.

  8. My winter coat is wool and I love it...have had it for 3 winters now and it looks great. Like you said just needs to be dry cleaned every year. It is so warm and very comfortable and perfect for Canadian winters.

  9. Wool is winter's warm winner for me! If the coat is large enough, layering also helps for warmth, especially here in Minne"snow"ta!
