Yummy – Food on the Barbeque!

in Family and Home on 05/21/13

Powered by Mom Blog & Family Love to Barbeque how about you?

bbq

Yes it’s true we love to BBQ as much as we can as food always tastes so good coming off the barbeque. I even had my husband build a cover over our barbeque so that I could go from our kitchen to our back deck and be under cover and you guessed it barbeque food even when it’s raining. It rains a lot here so trust me it’s well worth it to have a barbeque shelter.

With Summer fast approaching more people are getting into the grilling again and putting those burgers, steaks, potatoes and veggies on the bbq. When we make burgers on our grill I even cook the bacon on the bbq. Yep I sure do and it tastes so good it has that grilled flavor it smells amazing, so good that when I’m making it my daughter always comes out to the deck to say yum that smells good when is it going to be ready LOL.

How I do it is I put the bacon on a double folded sheet of aluminum foil or you can use an old cookie sheet whatever your preference. I turn one side of the bbq down to a low-medium heat and grill my bacon. It always comes out nicely, tastes and smells good. Except maybe that one time when I got distracted and it got burnt but hey I think we’ve all burnt bacon no matter how we cooked at one time or another.

Our barbeque is of course well used, in fact we have two as we’ve used them so much over the years but it will soon be time to replace our main bbq as one is just  small tabletop barbeque. Naturally we’d love to get a nice big, fancy one and it has to be natural gas too as we’re already set up for that so no having to refill propane tanks all of the time. I have my eye on a few of them but we’ll have to save up, maybe next year. As long as we have one to use to make some yummy food and hey it’s even usually healthier on the barbeque so we can’t go wrong!

What are some of your favourite foods to cook on a barbeque? Feel free to comment below we’d love to hear from you!

When my husband was alive, we always went to the State Park and BBQ’d hot dogs and burgers. I would have preferred ribs or chicken, but he didn’t eat either. Now I don’t get a chance to BBQ anywhere, but I sure love reading about other people. I live vicariously through them!

We love to grill also. Some of our favorites are burgers, ribs and chicken. But we also like Kabobs, shrimp, veggies, and you can even do pizza on the grill! Grill some garlic bread, or try some grilled fruit. The possibilities are endless. Most of our meals during the summer & fall are grilled outdoors.

We LOVE to grill outside!! We don’t have a BBQ grill, we have a fire pit! My husband is a chef (lucky me) and he loves to cook! We even grill in the winter occasionally. My kids like to roast hot dogs and marshmallows for smores. Well my older 2 are 17 and 16 so they are usually to busy to hang out at home with the boring old family, but my youngest she is 5 and LOVES when she and daddy go into the woods and find the perfect stick for her to cook her masterpieces on!! I’m so glad the warmer weather is setting in, summer vacation starts for my youngest tomorrow, the 11th for my 16 year old and my oldest just graduated high school last Tuesday (had to throw that in because I am soooooooo proud of her).

Well before I get started on what we like to “Q” – let me start by with two observations/ comments:

First, if you folks are cooking bacon OUT on the grill – it’s amazing that the whole neighborhood (human and animal alike!) aren’t flocking to your backyard with their mouths drooling! AND about that outdoor “roof” over your BBQ – can I either import your husband or at least his “floor” (roof? ceiling plans?) – so maybe I can my (very handy when he wants to be) Honey/Hubby to build one like that for us!

We are very big on outdoor BBQiing/ grilling AND my Hubby DID build a fabulous SMOKER too! While we’ve always cooked the usual, burgers, chicken, sausages, steaks and chops – but in recent years we’ve been branching out and cooking a lot more fish and seafood, wild game, whole roasts and LOTS of veggies and kebabs. And we’re experimenting with fruits too: pineapple, peaches, papaya, mange and bananas so far.

We’ve tried pizza a few times but there are so many other temptations it’s not on out A List. Since it Tis the Season and so many of us love to grill – I hope you will continue to treat us by sharing your BBQ experiences, recipe ideas – and even funny stories. Thanks Michelle!

You made me laugh about the bacon and the neighborhood lol 🙂 thanks for sharing and yes I will be bringing more recipes soon for sure 🙂

        Hey Michelle,
Have you tried the peaches with brown sugar and butter yet? That is one of my all-time favorite combo of flavors – I think I like even better than it’s cousin made with bananas (plus a splash of rum and a squeeze of lime – though I admit that one works a little better in the sauteed pan – or “flambeed” with the rum and the whole thing topped with Vanilla Ice Cream… But I digress…

Re: The Bacon – it seems like everyone I know including “Heart-Healthy /Virtual Vegetarians” and “Keepers of Kosher” seem to have a sixth sense when if comes to the scent of bacon cooking and even those who are able to exercise restraint acknowledge that it does smell kind of irresistible.

In the winter I miss the flavour of fresh roasted red peppers. I put them on a jelly roll pan and put them under the broiler with a touch of olive oil (makes the skin bubble nicely for peeling) to scorch. I then put them in a closed paper bag to cool The skins just come right off. I cut the pepper into large slices and put some cheese (usually havarti) and roll them up with a toothpick to hold. Bake just to melt the cheese. Yuuummmmm

We love BBQing! We do it at least 4 nights a week but it’s normally 5 different things. I’d love to get some variety and be able to make some healthier meals with it.

When’s dinner? OMG now I am starving! You are right, everything tastes better off the grill. We need a new one too, but they can be expensive. So my hubby is going to take the 2 we have and make sure we have 1 good one for this summer!

Our favorite thing to grill is hamburgers and hot dogs. We also like to fill foil packs with vegetables, potatoes, spices, your favorite meat & a liquid. I use beer and/or water. 30 mins….YUM! We had our kids over last night and grilled burgers & dogs. 🙂 We have a charcoal grill.
