PHOENIX, AZ: 14 year old Goliath is fittingly named for his enormous ability to love. It's high-intake season at the shelter and Goliath is currently the oldest adoptable dog on site. He's a bit worried that nobody will choose him from crowd. In the past six months, Goliath has been in and out of the shelter twice. He just wants a bit of stability for the last few chapters of his life and he'll pay you back in loads of love and smiles! PLEASE SHARE!

If you’re not going to have a pet be indoors with you the majority of the time, give it lots of love, prepared to pay vet bills in an emergency and make a life time commitment then a pet is not for you. This is something we are passionate about and really want to get the message across to adopt not shop and that it’s a lifetime commitment of love!Information from Goliath's Adoption Post

Volunteer Heather wrote, "Our county shelters are filling up (over 800 animals currently) and owner surrenders are dramatically increased this year. Many of these owner surrenders are senior dogs. 🙁

Goliath absolutely broke my heart. At 14 years old, Goliath is currently our oldest adoptable pet at the West Valley shelter. We first met him back in January, when he came to the shelter as a stray. We discovered that Goliath was lost during a tragic house fire, in which his owner lost everything. We were able to locate the owner and return Goliath to her. In May, Goliath came to us again, this time surrendered by a family member of his owner. Multiple attempts to locate Goliath's owner have been unsuccessful and all numbers are disconnected. We aren't sure what happened, but we do know that Goliath is very sad here and deserves to live out the rest of his life in a loving and comfortable home.

Goliath doesn't ask for much- a short walk, some treats, love and a soft bed. He has done well with dogs he's met here at the shelter and wouldn't mind sharing his new home with a fur sibling. We don't know if Goliath has a month left, or a year left, but we DO know that time shouldn't be spent here at the shelter. Can YOU be Goliath's final and true forever?"

  3. What a cute dog, he seems so sweet.
    Just a comment on the blog, though. It's kind of tough leaving a comment when there are 2 pop-ups trying to get me to subscribe to the newsletter that I already subscribe to. There is one at the top that comes down so I have to click no thanks and then just as I was typing in a response here another popped up and half my response ended up in that box.

  6. I'm so glad that this older dog got a new home to love. We just adopted a dog for me. I call him a "therapy" dog, even though he's not trained. But, because I'm chronically ill, he cuddles with me all day when I'm down. Adopted dogs are the BEST 🙂

  7. Thank goodness he was adopted. I'm sure his owner loved him very much and probably was hospitalized or passed on. It's important to include pets in your will so family members will know your wishes.

  8. What a darling boy. My last rescue was a senior and we only had him for 18 months; the only time in his life he was ever not left alone in muddy yard. He was so sweet. I am so glad that we got to be part of his life.

  9. Poor old thing - all that love to give to the right person/family. I live in Ireland so I'm no good to Goliath but my sister re-homes rescue dogs & pups, while I do the same for cats and kittens. In fact, there's a tiny kitten curled up in my cleavage for warmth right now! The mother was killed on the road and the kittens abandoned. This little guy was the only one to make it and he needs feeding with a dropper every 2 hours. He'll probably become a permanent fixture if he gets along with the other three!

  11. Older dogs are the best! They're so loving and just want to be loved in return. Please someone nearby adopt Goliath, you won't regret it.

  21. I love that your taking your time to help out animals which need a home. Unlike cats, dog cannot live on their own, and are a lot like toddlers which need a forever home, just because they are a pet does not mean they will be fine without a human 🙁

  27. Goliath is a great dog. I wish I could adopt like a dog like him. I hope he finds a good home, and someone who will take good care of him.

  28. That is such a sweet face. We always adopt from a shelter. I couldn't live with myself if I bought from a breeder when there are so many being killed in the shelters.

  34. I hate that people give away their senior pets. I unfortunately had to do that once myself, but my cat was literally destroying my home and I was 8 months pregnant and couldn't do anything about it. I contacted rescues all over the state, and even in our neighboring states but nobody would take her, they said I should just use my local shelter. Luckily we are a no-kill city, but that doesn't make me feel better. I miss her every day. I hope Goliath gets that kind of love! I wish I could take him! What a sweet boy.

  36. I have 3 rescue dogs and 1 of my cats came from the shelter as well. I hope he finds a loving home as well made sure I shared this post with others.,

It is sad that so many dogs are in this situation, but its up to us to get the word out about adopting a senior and to stop these puppy mills,, I am so glad Goliath found a wonderful home, I hope more people reading your post will find space not only in their home but in their hearts to adopt a senior.. They just like us , want to be loved..

  39. We adopted a 14 year old senior dog two years ago. It's been my best experience yet, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
