Powered by Mom Blog shares some of her favorite red wines
To start I'm going to put a disclaimer saying I'm no wine expert, I don't even know what I"m doing when I go to wine tastings except to taste a lot of different wines in small sips of course. I don't advocate drinking too much and I certainly never, ever will drink and drive. So if you're going to drink please be responsible. These ones I post here are ones I'm trying at home and I stay at home when having them as it's my time to relax.
Now that we're done with that let's get on with it, I want to share :). Here's my wine of the weekend which I'm about to open and share with my hubby after a very long week of work. It's Shannon Ridge their Petite Sirah High Elevation series. Apparently there's also a Petite Sirah Single Vineyard series.
I generally only drink alcohol of any kind on the weekend because the rest of the week is even more insanely busy and I don't need anything to slow me down which wine will. However, I have started to enjoy wines the last few years. Most of my friends are surprised by this as seriously I never ever drank before didn't have the taste for it.
As many of you may know I cross border shop as I'm only 15 minutes from the Washington state border so I'm over there at least once a week to fill up on gas, get groceries and pick up parcels. Since I've been trying wine more the last couple of years now I pick up a bottle of wine on some of those trips. Wine is generally cheaper across the border as here at home we have more taxes etc.. on it.
I have to admit I don't like to spend a lot of money on wine, I do believe in buying quality but it seems to me there are a lot of nice wines that you can buy at very reasonable prices. The Shannon Ridge cost me $12 at Cost Cutters, a store I know is more expensive but it's the closest grocery store when I cross the border. I generally don't have a lot of time to go farther out, and I definitely won't drive further just for wine to save a few dollars. So you might be able to get it for less than I do but $12 is fine for me and it's usually the most I spend across the border.
However, I think it's a good price as I recently looked on the Shannon Ridge website and there it says it's $22.99 so score on my end. Here's what they have to say about their wine:
Tasting Notes
Color: Deep purple
Aroma: Creamy vanilla oak, blueberry, blackberry
Flavor: Blueberry pie, fresh blackberry, dark chocolate
Texture: Rich, well balanced, bold lingering finish
Um okay sure, I told you I'm no wine connoisseur I like what I like and I like it to not be strong nor tart or too dry. I will admit it dive seem like it had a berry and dark chocolate flavor, no wonder I loved this wine! In my opinion if you like something with a hint of fruitiness but is not sweet, slight dark chocolate hint of a taste you might want to give the Shannon Ridge Petite Sirah, High Elevation series a try. If you don't like it sorry we all have different tastes 🙂
I just wanted to share my experience with you and hope you will share ones you like as well. I'm always open to trying a new wine, just has to be kept to $22 or less preferably less lol.
Now I'm off to drink that glass that is pictured at the top of this article it's calling my name!
What red wines do you like or do you prefer white or rosee or?
By the way no one has paid me for this post, this is my treat to myself for a Friday evening and I just wanted to share it with you all.
I love red wine! There is a place locally to me where friends and I go to make and bottle our own wine! And we get to sample wines while we are there, and eat homemade Italian breads with different flavored oils to dip them in! Fun!
I started drinking red wine as a health benefit a few years ago, but am very particular about the taste. Glad to see non-expert reviews, as I think they are the ones I benefit from learning about most. Thanks!
I am not much of a wine drinker, but my doctor says I should try a little each day. This one looks great and you did a good job on review.
I'm not much of a wine drinker but a few of my friends do love wine so i would recommend them to try this
I haven't had any wine in a long time. This one does sound interesting though. Thanks for sharing!
I am a wine drinker, but it can't be too sweet for my taste. Now this wines sounds like it would be fruity and the only fruity wine I like is sangria. But I'll keep a lookout for this winery label. Thanks.
Dorothy, I don't find this wine fruit at all. The berry taste is super subtle. Sangria is super fruity since that's what they do add fruit to it, some add sugar but sangria can be made with almost any red wine. hope that helps.
i am not a wine drinker, but your review was wonderfully informative. i think it is important to at least check out reviews on any new product you want to try. thank you for your wonderful reviews, i enjoy reading them all. [email protected]

I rarely drink, but once in awhile a nice glass of wine is a good thing.
My hubby loves red wine, so I will share this info with him.
I love to try different red wines and this one sounds like a winner.
I've never been much of a wine drinker (raised in a dry county, lol)--but I have a cousin who loves her wine, so I'll recommend this!
